MARUTZ, Carl L.
of New Port Richey, Florida
and Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away June 29, 2012 at the age of 83. Carl was born October 5, 1928 in St. Joseph, MI to the late Herman and Alma Fellner Marutz. Carl was united in marriage to Joyce Marie VanderMolen on November 12, 1949. Carl and his wife enjoyed their winters in Florida and their summers in Kalamazoo. He served in the U.S. Army for many years and during the Korean War, until honorably discharged in January of 1954. Carl was a member of the American Legion Post 36 in Kalamazoo and the VFW Post 7987 in New Port Richey, FL, where he also proudly served in the honor guard for 15 years. Surviving Carl are his wife, Joyce Marutz; sister-in-law, Arlene King; brother-in-law, Garrett VanderMolen; 5 nephews and 1 niece. Also preceding Carl in death was a nephew, Ronald King; and his best friend, Leonard Popke. Services will take place Tuesday, 11:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3000 West Main Street, Kalamazoo, where family will greet friends for 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor David Sidwell will officiate services. Interment will take place, following a luncheon, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:00. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St.. Memorials may be directed to the church.
