Carl Hackenburg

Carl Hackenburg, 84, passed away peacefully in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 25, 2025.

He was born in 1940 in Sturgis, Michigan to Emmon and Fern (Tefft) Hackenburg. He grew up in Colon, Michigan, and graduated from Colon High School. He attended Michigan Technological University in Sault Saint Marie and graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Carl retired from Kirsch Company in Sturgis, Michigan. He had many hobbies throughout the years, which included hunting, fishing, building, and engineering. He built his own house in the Sturgis area, which he lived in for many years. He moved from Sturgis to Kalamazoo in 2017.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Doris Anderson, and his first wife, Karen. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his brother, John (Jean) Hackenburg; his children, Laurie (John) Jacobs, Paul (Candace) Hackenburg, Donna Douglas, and Mike Hosak; his grandchildren, Ross Hackenburg, Lyndsie Hackenburg, Trevor Jacobs, Tanner Jacobs, Ashley Stafford, and Will Blowers; four great-grandchildren, and two nieces, and a nephew.

Private services have taken place. Memorials may be directed to Southwest Michigan Cancer Center, DeVos Children’s Hospital, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
