BRITTON, Mr. Carl Jr.
Mattawan Carl Britton, Jr., age 84, died on Sunday July 8, 2012, in Lawton, MI. He was born on Wednesday, July 13, 1927, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Carl and Rosetta Root Britton and had been a lifelong area resident. Carl served in the US Army during World War II. He retired from Kalamazoo Public Schools, and had worked for Sprague Floor Service, Angel Floor Service and Kalamazoo Tank and Silo. Carl was a member of Portage Church of Christ and Decatur VFW Post #6248. Over the years, Carl collected classic cars. He also enjoyed camping in the UP with his family. Carl was preceded in death by: his parents; a grandson, Chad Allen Davis; a great-grandson, Tod Baker; two brothers, Wesley Britton and Dennis Britton; and a sister, Frances Britton. On May 26, 1945, Carl was united in marriage with the former Idella J. Alberts, who survives. Also surviving are: four children, Sandra Rick Davis of Portage, Janice Gordy Herrington of Kalamazoo, Eugene Brenda Britton of Paw Paw and Denton "Joey" Britton of Mattawan; six grandsons, Richard Kelly Wiggins Davis, Scott Jamie Germain Davis, Jason Sue Britton, Eric Andrea Britton, Christian Kelly McClain Herrington and Timothy Katy Herrington; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley Bakos, Lainey Davis, Leggar Davis, Kensey Plumley, Connor Plumley, Brandi Diller, Bradley Diller, Ian Britton and Nolan Britton; a great-great-granddaughter, Victoria Baldwin; two brothers, Wayne Carol Britton and Ronald Britton; two sisters, Marilyn Mock and Linda Leotta Jones; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where services will begin at 2:00. Minister Mike James will officiate. Interment in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, North will follow services. Memorials should be directed to the March of Dimes.
