KEEHR, Bruce J.
Portage Bruce J. Keehr, age 56, of Portage, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on June 3, 2013. Bruce was born in Dearborn, MI on February 20th 1957, the son of Bert Keehr and Winnie Zygnowicz. He was a graduate of Wayne Memorial High School in 1975 and married Cynthia Lloyd Schaeffer, October 23, 1976. Bruce was by trade a Concrete Mason and he was a member of the Teamster Union, Bricklayers and Trowel Trades International, and Cement Masons Union of Detroit and Vicinity. He held a Construction License and loved to help friends and family with building projects. In 2001 Bruce built and landscaped a beautiful home at 264 S. Nottawa, Mendon, MI from ground up. He loved the summers because he could be outside working on his house and yard, and his time at the lake on the weekends. He most recently was working on building projects with his children on their family lake cottages, and got to spend Memorial Day Weekend with all his children and grandchildren. Bruce was completely devoted to his children, and his 5 grandchildren were his whole life. Bruce is survived by his father, Bert Keehr, of Florida and mother, Winnie Zygnowicz, of Drummond Island; three children; Heather Keehr Brown of Portage, Brandon J. Keehr, SFC, U.S. Army of Clarksville, TN and Riley C. Keehr, SGT, Illinois Army National Guard of Pingree Grove, IL; Son-in-law Andy Brown, Daughters-in-law, Amanda Ford Keehr and Alyssa Ulmer Keehr; 5 grandchildren, Dominick and Reese Brown, Cassidy and Drake Keehr, and Claire Keehr; two brothers. Curt Keehr of Wayne, MI and Jeffrey Keehr of New Hudson, MI; two sisters-in-law, Janet Keehr and Karen Keehr; a niece, Laura Keehr Palencar-Stark, a nephew, Curtis John Keehr. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Carson Joshua Brown in 2007. The family is planning a private memorial service to celebrate his life. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers, and because he was such a proud father of his two military sons, memorials can be directed to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free or low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers, or The Green Beret Foundation, which provides unconventional resources to facilitate the special needs of our wounded, ill and injured.
