SLOCUM, Boyd "Bud"
Kalamazoo Passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 in Kalamazoo. He was born March 15, 1933 in Lawrence, MI, the son of Charles and E. Marie Caluman Slocum and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. During the Korean War, Bud served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic and more recently, was employed by the Austin Company for several years as a steel worker. Bud loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing, including go-carts and culinary arts. On November 3, 1956, he married Joyce Ritsema Slocum, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Deborah Kenny Linn and Tina Cornwell; grandchildren, Ryan Smith Liana Barber, Kristina Smith, Tyler Linn, Dustin Lauren Cornwell and Chelsea Cornwell; four great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Slocum Linda; sister-in-law Evelyn Musselman; step-grandson, Joseph Linn; 2 step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents, Sister and brother-in-law Karen and William DeBruyn and brother-in-law Donald Musselman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 at 11:30 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., with Rev. Greg Timmer officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer national Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 PM. A luncheon will be served at 3pm at Royal Estates Community Center following interment; 8300 Ravine Rd, Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the West Michigan Cancer Center or Borgess VNA.
