Boutros Y. Awad, age 91, of Portage passed away May 11, 2024. He was born November 3, 1932 in El Qaa, Lebanon to the late Youssef and Nazira (Aad) Awad.
Boutros grew up in a small Catholic town in Lebanon, where the opportunity for education was limited. He received only a couple years of elementary education and vowed to do everything possible to provide education to his children. It was in that small town, where he met his future wife, Colette. Through Boutros’ determination for educating his children and doing the best for his family, he decided, along with his sons and daughters, to emigrate to the United States. Boutros found fishing very enjoyable and especially loved to fish on Austin Lake.
Boutros was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Maurice, Antoinette, Durba, and Amelia.
He is survived by his wife, Colette (Nassour) Awad
Children: George Awad, Joseph Awad (Antoinette), Camille Awad (Sonia), Nazira Matar (Marwan), Miled Awad (Amineh), Najib Awad, and Catherine Salome (Ken)
Grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Peter, and Lily Awad; Simon and Claudia Awad; Diana and Anthony Awad; Jihad Matar (Lynnette), Nathalie Alwane (Abdallah), and Simon Matar; Elario and Peter Awad; and Amber, Austin, and Briana Salome.
Great-grandchildren: Eli and Ryan Alwane, and Cecilia Matar.
Siblings: Raymond, Antoine, Hana, and Lydia.
A prayer service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002, where family will greet friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in Schoolcraft Cemetery.
