Bonita J. 'Bonnie" Skippers

SKIPPERS, Bonita J. "Bonnie"
of Portage, Michigan Bonnie passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 5, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. She was born July 4, 1926 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Millard and Ersa Barker Sager. Bonnie graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master's Degree in Education and was employed by Portage Public Schools as a teacher for many years. She was a founding and active member of Centre Avenue Church of God and an active volunteer at the Portage Senior Center. Bonnie also was the director of the Kalamazoo Chapter of Sweet Adelines female chorus. On July 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Glen Skippers, who survives. Also surviving are their three children, Debra Gregg Elenbaas of Holland, Kim Denise Skippers of Solon, OH and Jay Mari Skippers of Schoolcraft; six grandchildren, Laura and Barbra Elenbaas and Alex, Bryan, Drake and Trent Skippers. Preceding her in death are her parents and sister, Cecilia McMillan. A memorial service for Bonnie will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Centre Avenue Church of God, 1917 E. Centre Avenue with Pastor Richard D. Hertsel officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 AM on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Centre Avenue Church of God or Portage Senior Center. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
