VELDMAN, Mrs. Blanche
Portage, MI Blanche Veldman, age 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday evening, November 22, 2012. She was born on Sunday, April 9, 1922, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Lambert and Anna Modderman Greendyke and had been a lifelong area resident. Blanche was a member of Milwood Christian Reformed Church. She dedicated her life to serving others and had a passion for taking care of her family and friends. Blanche spent many years caring for her husband who was sick with MS. She willingly and generously devoted her life to his care. She worked in Shipley's Factory, Directors Hall and took in laundry and ironing to take care of her family. Blanche's family was her most important priority and her granddaughters were the center of her life. Blanche never missed an event or ball game that they were involved in. On August 24, 1951, Blanche was united in marriage with John Veldman, who preceded her in death on August 3, 1971. Blanche was also preceded in death by: her parents; four sisters, Nellie Greendyke, Lyda Baugh, Irene Greendyke and Doris Greendyke; and two brothers, Donald Greendyke and Bob Greendyke. Blanche is survived by: a son and his wife, Bill & Terri Veldman of Kalamazoo; two granddaughters, Anna Stephen Wierenga of Allendale and Kelli Veldman of Kalamazoo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Services will be held 11:00 Monday morning at Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane, with Rev. Clayton Smith, officiating.
