ZOUTMAN, Betty J.
Of Portage Betty Jane Zoutman was born February 21, 1924, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of William and Pansy Senne Powers and went home to be with her Lord, November 20, 2010 in Kalamazoo. A lifelong area resident she had been employed for over 28 years with The Upjohn Company. On September 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Frederick Zoutman. Betty and Fred were part of the original group who help start Southridge Reformed Church, where she was a longtime member. She was known as a wonderful homemaker, who loved to bake, clean, decorate and keep her families homes in excellent condition. The most important part of her life was her family, especially spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Fred on June 14, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Roger Shemberger of Portage; two grandchildren, Tyler Shemberger of Chicago and Becca Shemberger of Portage; two very special nieces, Christine Veine and Sharon Hossack. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
