of Kalamazoo Betty passed away Thursday afternoon, January 26, 2012. She was born June 6, 1925 in West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Dempsy and Alice Keefer Ward. On April 7, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Ernest Whittington, who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1986. Betty and Ernest moved to Kalamazoo in 1950 and she was employed by The Upjohn Co. for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kalamazoo and enjoyed making and painting ceramics; cooking; and spending time with her family. Surviving are her two children, Dennis Dayle Whittington of Kalamazoo and Brenda Gary Pearson of Allegan; three grandchildren, Daryn Nate Hindman of Mattawan, Derek Whittington of New Orleans, LA and Amy William Crocker of Mattawan; and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services for Betty will be at 3:00 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, where friends may visit with the family from 2:00 PM until the time of service. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Betty's family requests an anonymous random act of kindness be made.
