Portage, Michigan Died quietly Friday morning April 17, 2009 at her residence. Betty was born July 6, 1922 in Traverse City, Michigan a daughter of Willard and Lucy Coleman Ashmore. She had been a Portage resident for 5 years, coming from Macomb, MI. She was employed with the Holy Cross Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 1985. Betty was a proud member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church; Portage Senior Center; and the Portage Eagles Auxiliary. Betty also enjoyed sharing her Beacon Club membership with her friends. She was a diverse woman and was once honored for her supervisory leadership in the EKG Department of Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit. She also taught others her vocation at Marygrove College in Detroit. She loved to travel and create humorous and extraordinary memories for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carroll Minyard Wasson on October 11, 1988; a son-in-law, Terrence Payne; a brother, Charles Ashmore; a sister, Lois Watkoski; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Ashmore. She is the beloved mother of 3 children, Sharon Payne of Clarkston, MI, Fred Nicole Watkoske of Portage, and Donna Donald Ludwig of Lombard, IL; joyous grandmother of 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Willard Ashmore of Midland, MI; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be offered 10 o'clock Saturday, April 25th at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 1150 Centre Ave. Private burial will take pace at a later date.
