Portage, MI Betty died Thursday evening, October 1, 2009, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born November 27, 1929, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Russell P. and Frances E. Ogden Gibson and had been a life long area resident. Betty was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she once served as the church's social director. She worked for over 20 years as a school bus driver for Portage Public Schools before retiring. Betty loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, LouAnn Ivens; a sister, Jean LaHuis and a brother, Russell "Sonny" Gibson. She is survived by: 3 children, Jeanne Taylor of Portage, Susan Richard Wheat of Three Rivers and Thomas R. Christine Taylor, Jr. of Kalamazoo; a son-in-law, Greg Ivens of Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2031 E. Cork St., with the Rev. Greg Silvey, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial in Riverside Cemetery will follow services. Betty's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Bethlehem Baptist Church. www.langelands.com 269-343-1508.
