Portage, MI Betty died Thursday evening, October 1, 2009, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born November 27, 1929, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Russell P. and Frances E. Ogden Gibson and had been a life long area resident. Betty was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she once served as the church's social director. She worked for over 20 years as a school bus driver for Portage Public Schools before retiring. Betty loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, LouAnn Ivens; a sister, Jean LaHuis and a brother, Russell "Sonny" Gibson. She is survived by: 3 children, Jeanne Taylor of Portage, Susan Richard Wheat of Three Rivers and Thomas R. Christine Taylor, Jr. of Kalamazoo; a son-in-law, Greg Ivens of Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2031 E. Cork St., with the Rev. Greg Silvey, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
