Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at home, after a short battle with lung cancer. Betty was born June 24, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Mary Olinger. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1946 and married Richard Shilts in 1949. She worked at Jacobson's as a seamstress and retired from Redwood and Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, a sister, Waneta and a brother, Charles. Betty is survived by her children, Paula Roger Combs of Battle Creek, Donald Shilts of Kalamazoo and Kathleen Wesaw of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Sheryl Foppema, Chelsea and Matthew Wesaw; a great granddaughter, Reyanna Earley; nieces and nephews. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and her grandchildren very much. Her family was her greatest joy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway with Rev. John Vick officiating. Interment will follow in the Augusta Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.
