Betty June Sackett went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 8, at the age of 94. She was a model of strength and devotion to her family to the end, even through the significant health issues she faced in the last few years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 siblings; her son, Steven Paul Sackett; and Philip Mendham, her partner of 35 years.
Betty was born January 2, 1930, to Giovanni and Rosina Pacillo in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1948, she married Bernie Sackett of Gobles, Michigan. Betty and Bernie were married for 15 years and together they had 3 children: Steven, Sandra, and Jeffrey. Her children and grandchildren were her passion and the center of her world. She always took great joy in being a prominent part of their lives and was quick to shower them with gifts and blessings. She was a constant presence at nearly every family function: holidays, birthdays, weddings, retirement celebrations, and Sunday dinners.
Betty worked for several different companies during the course of her career, but it was in the machine room at Humphrey Products, where she would work until she retired, that she met Phil Mendham, who became her life partner and significant other of 35 years until his passing in 2021. She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her children, Sandra (Jerry) Bolhuis and Jeffrey (Susan) Sackett; her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Sackett; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty’s life will be celebrated at First Baptist Church of Portage, 1133 E. Centre Avenue, Portage, Michigan 49002, where she accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and followed him in baptism. Services will be held Monday, April 29, 2024, and will consist of a public visitation from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, and a memorial service at 5:30pm with food and fellowship to follow.
