Betty (Adkin) Northrup

Betty Northrup, age 95 of Portage, passed away on May 11, 2023.

She was born on February 10, 1928, in South Haven, Michigan, the daughter of Mildred (Marr) and Robert Adkin. A graduate of South Haven High School, Betty attended beauty school and received her beautician license. She worked at a beauty shop for a while and then did hair for friends and family from her home. Her life’s work was in childcare, watching the neighbor’s children along with her daughters. She taught 4-H when the children were growing up.

She married Doyal Northrup on September 27, 1947. After 75 years of marriage, Doyal passed away in February of 2023. They were members of Pathfinder Church. They were family oriented and enjoyed time together. She loved with her whole heart unconditionally and was cherished by her family.

Her family includes her children: Connie Hatfield-Kirk and Ginny (Jim) Cronkhite; her sister Mary Ann Schlack; her grandchildren: Brian Hatfield, Chris (Jennifer) Hatfield, Cory (Amanda) Cronkhite; Christy (Kris) Winkle; her great-grandchildren: Zachary and Seth Hatfield, Dominick, Colin, Blake, and Allaina Hatfield; her nieces and nephews: Paul Adkin, Karen (Mark) Thompson, Dian (Jim) Leipe, John (Rhonda) Schlack, Carrie (Fred) Murphy, Bob (Arlene) Schlack, Steve (Erma) Schlack, and Tim Schlack; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doyal, her son-in-law Bob Kirk, her brother Arthur (Mary) Adkin, her brother-in-law John Schlack.

Friends may gather with Betty’s family on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E. Centre Avenue, Portage, 49002, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, North, 1717 N Drake Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49006
