KATS, Betty J.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Mrs. Kats passed away Thursday morning, November 20, 2008 at Kairos Dwelling. She was born August 6, 1933 in Kalkaska, one of two daughters to the late Dean and Estella Bartholomew LaPorte. Betty was employed by First Community Federal Credit Union in Parchment for over 30 years, until her retirement in 1993. A member of Haven Church, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, painting, and planting flowers. On May 16, 1969, Betty was united in marriage to Roy D. Kats, who survives. Also surviving are 7 children, Kathryn Yucker of Moncks Corner, SC, Sheryl Sullivan of Kalamazoo, Pamela Mellema of Richland, Laura Bob Jr. Barnes of Kalamazoo, Alan Kats of Tucson, AZ, Deborah Kats of Tucson, AZ, and Rebecca Mike Gerome of Toms River, NJ; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Marilyn Kay Howard Brainerd of Lake Doster; 1 nephew, Curt Rose E. Fish of Ann Arbor; 1 niece, Tammy Corbin of Traverse City; and 5 great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; and 1 grandson, Brandon Mellema. Funeral services for Betty will be at 1:00 PM on Monday at Haven Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Road, with Pastor Brian Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 3-6 PM on Sunday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Kairos Dwelling for the Terminally Ill.
