Kalamazoo, MI Died Wednesday morning February 16, 2011. Betty Jane was born December 26, 1918 in Canton, Ohio, daughter of David and Grace Lowry. She was a Kalamazoo resident from 1949 until 2006, when she moved to Midland, MI to be near her daughter. Betty Jane was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and held a variety of jobs, including French & Latin teacher, substitute librarian in the Kalamazoo Public Schools and community volunteer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, John Dunning Guild, WMU Faculty Dames, Kalamazoo Newcomers Club and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, travelling and spent many winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 54 years, Joe B. Freeman; and a brother, Dick Lowry. Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Lorie Stephen Ermak of Midland, MI; and 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Ermak of Kirkland, WA and Lisa Ermak of Holland, MI. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan camperships, Kalamazoo Regional Center, 601 W.
