Of Kalamazoo Passed away Friday evening, May 25, 2007. Betty was born December 8, 1919 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Harold and Tata Vande Pol Christian and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. She was a member of the First Reformed Church and later Second Reformed Church. Betty was a wonderful cook and talented seamstress. She was also a gifted artist who created beautiful etchings, pictures, and painted furniture and other items. Before the onset of arthritis she enjoyed playing the piano. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially taking care of her grandchildren. Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time on the beach at Lake Michigan and Naples, Florida with friends and family. On January 31, 1944 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Howard Van Dis who preceded her in death on August 23, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marnie Willoughby. She is survived by 2 children, Thomas Lisa Van Dis of Richland, Susan Brian Campbell of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Anna T.J. Jones, Kate Van Dis all of Durham, NC; a great-granddaughter, Una Jones; her sister, Evelyn Gibson of Kalamazoo; special cousins, Melvin Vivian Van Dis; brother-in-law, Robert Kay Van Dis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 2:00 o?clock Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick with Rev. Ralph Robrahn of Second Reformed Church officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5-8pm and Wednesday from 1-2pm prior to the service. Private family interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
