Of Kalamazoo Bertha was born September 8, 1918, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of George and Agnes Venema Baker and went home to be with her Lord on September 9, 2011, in Kalamazoo. She was a longtime Kalamazoo area resident who was a charter member of the Covenant United Reformed Church. On October 29, 1946, Bertha was united in marriage to Janus Vaar, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by two brothers, Jacob and Robert Baker. Surviving are her daughter, Jan Richard Krebs of Vermontville, MI; a sister, Evelyn Holmes of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 12th from 1 to 2 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St.; where funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday with Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold officiating. A private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
