ROWEN, Bernice
Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008. She was born December 27, 1907 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of George W. and Maude L. Bergeon Parker and had been a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, except for 14 years, when she lived in Portland, OR. Bernice was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo and was employed as a social worker for several private agencies for over 40 years. Bernice graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters in Social Work, was a member of A.A.U.W., N.A.S.W., various church groups, Business and Professional Women of Kalamazoo and a volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sons, Richard C. and John D. Rowen. Her survivors include 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Mary Jane Parker of Kalamazoo; two daughters-in-law, Una Rowen and Elaine Rowen; nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has take place and a private memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, the Arthritis Foundation or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
