of Kalamazoo A loving husband, father and grandfather, Bernie passed away at his home, with his loving family by his side, July 14, 2011 and is now in glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born July 11, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of Dick and Bessie Meyler Potts. Bernie enjoyed his job as a locomotive railroad engineer, retiring after 41 years of faithful service. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Bernie was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Church and had a passion to share Jesus wherever he went. He served as both an elder and deacon at Calvary and ministered at the Galesburg nursing home for many years. Bernie had a servant�s heart and was always quick to lend a hand. He loved people and had the heart of a father toward many and was faithful and steadfast in prayer for those in need. Bernie is survived by his wife, Erlene Wright Potts; his two daughters, Sharon Collins and Kathy Kirk Spence; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Howard Provoost and Thelma Marion Pacukewicz; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Road with Pastor John Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Calvary Bible Church Mission Fund, Heartland Hospice or the Nebbi Standard Academy of Uganda.
