ELLINGER, Bernard L.
of Portage, Michigan Bernard Lloyd Ellinger, age 93, passed away August 8, 2012 in Portage, Michigan. Bernard was born April 15, 1919 in Hopkins, Michigan, the son of Louis and Marie Platt Ellinger and has been a Kalamazoo resident most of his life. During WW II, he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. Prior to his retirement he was owner and operator for many years of B & B Steel Erection Company. Bernard was a 32nd degree Mason with Lodge #340 F&AM, a member of the Saladin Shrine, Peninsula Commandery Knights Templar, White Shrine, Camel Patrol, Order of the Purple Heart and VFW Post # 1527. On August 29, 1938 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Bertha L. Huitt Ellinger who preceded him in death on May 16, 2007. Surviving are four children, Bernard "James" Pat Ellinger, Terry Ann Ellinger, Roger Judy Ellinger, Deborah Zeimanis; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 12th from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A private interment with full military honors will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Bernard's memory may be directed to the Shriner's Children Hospital.
