COATES, Bernard F.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Kairos Dwelling. Bernard was born September 19, 1914 in Comstock, MI, to the late Frederick and Helen Holtgrieve Coates. He was united in marriage to Winifred "Winnie" Whipple DeVries on June 5, 1951, she preceded him in death in June of 2006. Bernard served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 until honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church for many years. Surviving Bernard are his grandchildren, Robert Karen Zylman, Mark Coates and Julie Fenner; step-daughter, Janice Marsh and her son Steven Marsh of Plainwell; sister, Doris William Dorough; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was a son, David Coates; 3 brothers and 7 sisters. No visitation is scheduled. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at a date to be announced.
