NELSON, Bennie J.
Of Portage Died October 12, 2010 at Bronson Hospital. Bennie was born July 10, 1926 in Three Rivers, a son of Berndt and Anna Peterson Nelson and lived most of his life in the Vicksburg and Portage areas. He served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a millwright at Allied Paper until his retirement. Bennie was a member of the American Legion Post #213 and the V.F.W. Post #1527. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel on February 14, 2002, by a beloved niece JoAnn Hallam Costello in 2006 and by 2 sisters, Olga Hallam and Doris Klomp. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 15 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Fran Grabowski from the Parchment United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Army and the Comstock V.F.W. Post #6252. Memorial contributions in Bennie's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
