of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the age of 78. She was born in Kalamazoo on November 3, 1934, the daughter of the late Karl Schmid and Sarah Diettra Schmid. Barbara enjoyed reading, crocheting and her beloved cat. She retired from First of America Bank now PNC Bank. Later in her life she moved to Arizona and enjoyed swimming and went on a whale watching trip while she was there. She is survived by four children, Susan T.W. Lane of Portage, Linda Mark Cole of Zeeland, MI, James Smith of Ceresco, MI and Laura Michael Richardson of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, William Schmid of Arkansas, Donald Terry Schmid of Tennessee, Mary Donald Joostberns of Portage, and Carol Victor Campbell of Portage; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family in care of: Susan Lane, 1819 Helen Ave., Portage, MI 49002.
