Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Mrs. Ohs passed away Monday afternoon, October 13, 2008, at her home. She was born October 1, 1922, in Muskegon Heights, MI, the daughter of the late Francis Victor and Jennie Horness Nordstrom. On September 14, 1947, Barbara was united in marriage to Paul A. Ohs. They raised their five children in Rochester, MI and lived there for over 30 years. They moved to Kalamazoo in 1988. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Kalamazoo. Barbara had a deep abiding faith in God. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Surviving are five children, Victoria Gilbert Sherman of St. Louis, MO, Wendell Hazel Ohs of Jackson, Kathleen Gordon Standfest of Traverse City, Gregory Lynda Ohs of Tulsa, OK, Barbara Jean Wesley VandeStreek Ohs of Kalamazoo; ten grandchildren, Sandra Matthew George, Susan Samuel Talley, Joshua Jennifer Standfest, Michael fiancé Sacha TerLaan Standfest, David Jill Ohs, Peter Ohs, A. Mathilde Ohs, Tara, Benson, and Marlena VandeStreek; six great-grandchildren: Jason George; Sean Talley; Morgan, Kendall, and Tyler Standfest and Landon Ohs; one sister, Ruth Morrison Schrader of Muskegon; one aunt, Agnes Horness of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 53 years, her parents; sister, Alice Rosegrant; and brother, Paul Nordstrom. The Memorial service for Barbara will be 3:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 8, at First Congregational Church, 129 S. Park St., Kalamazoo, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Private interment will be in West Oshtemo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Congregational Church or Heartland Hospice.
