Of Kalamazoo Passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at age 83. Barbara Jane Zandee was born in Grand Rapids on March 1, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Van Eerden Zandee. She received her Bachelors Degree from Calvin College in 1950. She worked as a substitute teacher for Kalamazoo schools. Formerly she was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church and currently a member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. Barbara was the church organist for First Reformed Church as well as many other churches in the Kalamazoo community. She was also the wedding organist for Kanley Chapel at Western Michigan University. She was an active volunteer with Park Village Pines and Shepherd's Center. Barbara married Gerald Zylstra on June 6, 1950 who preceded her in death on December 4, 1979. She later married Everett Hassing on January 28, 1984 who preceded her in death on February 1, 2009. Barbara is survived by four children, Mary David Baker of Dearborn, MI, Robert Margaret Zylstra of Chattanooga, TN, Richard Lisa Zylstra of Lombard, IL, and Ann David De Groot of Lombard, IL, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son David Zylstra and her sister Norma De Vries. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Road. Pastor Henry De Vries will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Friday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Calvin College or Kalamazoo Christian Schools.
