of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away at her residence on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Barbara was born December 5, 1929 in Ovid, MI, the daughter of Willis and Cora Anna Johnston McElwain and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. Prior to her retirement, Barbara was employed by the Upjohn Company as a lab technician for 36 years. On August 20, 1949, she was married in Kalamazoo to her dear husband of 61 years, James S. Carr, who preceded her in death on December 1, 2010. She is survived by her faithful dog "Feathers"; two special cousins, Angel A. and Lorna Ayala of Kalamazoo; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McElwain of Tracy City, TN.; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Bill & Eileen Phillips of Gladstone, MI. Barb was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald C. McElwain and Ronald G. McElwain. A private burial has taken place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family wishes to express thanks for the special care of Barb extended by Amy H., Emelie L. and Elizabeth of Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barb's memory may be made to Hospice Care of South West Michigan.
