WILSON, B. David, M.D.
of Bonita Springs, FL
and Kalamazoo, MI Dr. B. David Wilson passed away quietly February 10, 2013 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was 77. A loving family member has been lost and the Michigan medical community lost a dedicated friend.
David was born November 29, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1953, Albion College in 1957, and Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1961. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in 1965 and a fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Allen Park VA Hospital, Detroit in 1967.
David practiced allergy in the Greater Kalamazoo area for 32 years where he enjoyed helping his patients. He was president of the Michigan Allergy & Asthma Society 1977-78. Locally he was on the board and then president of the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine. He was involved in the medical political arena serving as a delegate, board member and then president 1995-96 of the Michigan State Medical Society. In addition, he served as a Michigan delegate to the American Medical Association for 18 years. He was a member of the National Board of Directors of the College of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology and the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology.
David and Nancy Ann Straffon were married in 1960. Having celebrated 52 years together, he is survived by Nancy; their children Robert A. Wilson, Bryon D. Wilson Debi and Cary Anne Wilson Peskin Robb. Their grandchildren include Madeline and Elena Wilson, Tara Wilson & Jeff Jones, and Tatum, Bobbie & Ben Peskin.
David and Nancy were members of the Parish Church of Christ the King and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo. David enjoyed years of concerts at the Kalamazoo Symphony and rounds of golf at the Kalamazoo Country Club. He wintered for 13 years in their Bonita Springs Villa.
His Memorial service will be held at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on July 13, 2013. Visitation will begin at 1:00 with a service at 2:00 pm. A memorial contribution in Dr. Wilson's name, to support scholarships, can be sent to WMU School of Medicine opening 2014 1903 W. Michigan Ave. Kalamazoo MI 49008-5403 or a charity of your choice.
