SPARKS, Avis May
Of Kalamazoo Passed away Monday afternoon, March 11, 2013 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Avis was born June 12, 1920 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Hugh and Etta Parker Sillars and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. She was employed for 20 years with Western Michigan University in both the Engineering and Food Service Departments. Avis was a member of the American Business Women's Association; a girl scout leader; and a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She was an avid reader; enjoyed traveling, puzzles, and spending time with her family. On April 4, 1942 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Reynolds Sparks, who preceded her in death in July 19, 1967. She was also preceded in death by a son Dennis Sparks; and 5 brothers and sisters, Winfield, Clayton, and Troy Sillars, Wanda Santman, and Lucille Mello. She is survived by her children, Deb Randy Schultz, Douglas Carolyn Sparks; daughter-in-law, Brenda Sparks; 5 grandchildren, Darrell Sparks, Duane Sparks, Alisha Brown, Brett Sparks, and Daniel Schultz; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, March 14 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
