Died Friday, January 13, 2017 at Wings Home in Allegan. Arthur was born January 19, 1914 in Mikado, Michigan to parents, Fred J. and Vida (Menery) Wisser. He was united in marriage to Agnes A. Smith on June 4, 1935. A Kalamazoo area resident most of his life he was employed with the Eaton Corporation (formerly Fuller Manufacturing) for 38 years before retiring. Arthur and Agnes spent the first years of their retirement traveling throughout the United States, visiting with family and friends and enjoying the sights in 45 of the 50 States. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting various game with both rifles and bow and arrow; and fishing on the Michigan lakes, salmon fishing in Lake Michigan, and a fishing expedition in Canada with his fishing buddies. Arthur was very talented and made much of his hunting and fishing gear himself, including the gun stocks for his rifles, bows and arrows, and many creative fishing lures. He was a past member of the Barry County Sportsmen's Club and the National Rifle Association. He loved bowling, golf and spending time with family and friends. Arthur was a past member of the Golden Agers of Delton and a recent member of the Lions Club at the Paw Paw Senior Citizens Center and played cards there as well as with friends in their homes and his. He always looked forward to the family card games and continued to play cards with family and friends up to the time of his death. Preceding him in death were his wife: Agnes A. Wisser on April 18, 2005; parents; stepmother: Margaret (McDonald) Wisser; son: Fredrick H. Wisser on August 16, 1998; 5 sisters; and 3 brothers. Surviving are his children: Jeanette (Jerry) Sherman of Hot Springs Village, AR, Clifford (Averil) Wisser of Edwardsville, IL, Joseph Wisser of Grand Rapids, and daughter-in-law: Sally Wisser of Danville, CA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother: Duncan "Pete" Wisser of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family thanks and appreciates his friends, nieces and nephews, and his caregivers who showed him so much love and support during his illness. Visitation will be from 10-11am on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., where a funeral service to celebrate Arthur's life will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Paw Paw Lions Club, PO Box 105, Paw Paw, MI 49079.
