GOLDEN, Arthur "Barney"
Portage Passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Art was born on December 8, 1932 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Clair and Mildred Vallier Golden and was a lifelong resident of Portage. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served 2 three year terms. He was employed at General Motors of Comstock for 32 years and that is where he would inherit the name, Barney Fife. Everyone who knew him knew him as Barney. He did many things throughout his life. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a bowling coach and an avid bowler for many years. He was also a Softball coach and player, loved Roller Derby, was a Pistons fan and a country music fan. He was a great husband, father and friend to everyone. He loved each one of us equally and unconditionally. We will miss you. Art is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice; their children, Paul Golden Sherry Dove , Lori Golden Ken VanEtta, Penny Kevin Anderson, Andrew Kristen Golden and Sherry Golden Brian Allers; 10 grandchildren, Dustin, Ryan, Racheal, Ashley, Jason, Brandy, Jamie, Payton, Ciera and Joshua; 7 great grandchildren, Cody, Logan, Hailee, Zachery, Caden, Aalayna and Julius Abel; brothers and sisters, Sharon, Bernie, Tryna, Chuck and Dave; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Andy. Please join us to celebrate his life on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 11:00 AM, at the Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, 5550 Oakland Drive, with Pastor David Barringer, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Following the service, burial, with full Military Honors, will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kalamazoo First Assembly of God or a local veterans organization.
