Age 83
Of Kalamazoo, MI Art finished his race on Monday afternoon, June 8, 2009 at Tendercare of Portage, and is now at home with his Savior. Art was born May 9, 1926 in Grand Rapids, the son of William and Jennie Ditmar Dykhuis. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was a self-employed home builder for over 35 years. After retirement, he served as construction coordinator for Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity. Art was a faithful soldier and servant in God's Kingdom, with a heart for missions and outreach. He was a faithful prayer warrior on behalf of his family and the church. Art will be remembered with honor and love. Surviving are his children, William Nell Dykhuis, Mary Allen VanKampen, Ruth Dale Lubbers, Ellen Dykhuis, James Teri Dykhuis; his cherished grandchildren, Arthur and Kelly Dykhuis, Jonathon, Joanna and Andrew Dykhuis, Jenny and David VanKampen, and Mark, Emily, Abby, and Teresa Lubbers; 1 brother, Thomas Nancy Dykhuis; 3 sisters, Sarah Leverne Tanis, Marie Roy Tanis, and Alida Jason Blauwkamp; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 51 years, Janice H. Kraker; his parents; and 1 brother, James A. Dykhuis. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Funeral services for Art will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave., with Rev. Dr. Kenneth A. Baker and Rev. Margaret J. Jenista officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Private interment will be in Overisel Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association or Christian Reformed Foreign Missions.
