Formerly of Parchment, MI Dr. Arnold "Arnie" Van Dyk was born April 1, 1933, in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Joe and Emogene Smith Van Dyk. Arnie passed away Friday, January 16, 2009, at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence in Muskegon, MI. He was a longtime Kalamazoo, Parchment and Gun Lake resident until moving to Muskegon three years ago. A graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, he received his BS degree at Western Michigan University and his DDS degree from University of Michigan. For 42 years he practiced dentistry in Parchment. On September 23, 1995, he was united in marriage to the former Christine Sutherland Langoni who survives. Arnie was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and had a passion for fishing. After his retirement in 1999, Arnie and Chris spent many happy times at their cabin in northern Michigan. Arnie was a founding member of the Parchment Lions Club; a Life member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association and the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society. He was also a member of the Chicago Dental Society. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Mae Van Dyk of Delton and Joe Brenda Van Dyk of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Lisa Greg Dziewicki of Kalamazoo and Sara Terry DeKoninck of Clarkston; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21 from 5-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where a service to celebrate Arnie's life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 22 with Pastor Kenneth Johnson officiating. A private interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. It was Arnie's request that in lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory be directed to Kalamazoo Free Dental Clinic, Attn.
