Passed away Friday, February 11, 2011. Arnis was born May 18, 1933 in Dundaga, Latvia, a son of Karlis and Irma Rerichs Kalmanis and lived in this area since 1960. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked for General Motors stamping plant for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo, was a life member of the American Latvian Association, the Daugavas Vanagi and the NRA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Livija in 1996. Arnis is survived by his companion of 14 years, Elita Davidsons; a niece, Daina Peter Luczyk; 3 nephews, Richard Pastars, Eriks Putnis and Roberts Putnis; sisters-in-law, Marija Pastars and Ruta Putnis; cousins, Arnis Davidsons, Janis Davidsons, Lolita Lemmer, Tony Lemmer, Levi, Jonus, Izak and Ivan Davidsons; and relatives in Latvia. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S, Burdick St., with Rev. Leons Viskne officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to Daugavas Vanadzes of Kalamazoo or the Latvian Heritage Center of Kalamazoo. Please visit
