LA ROY, Arlon Harold
Kalamazoo Arlon Harold LaRoy was born September 29, 1920, and passed to Heavenly Glory on June 6, 2010. He was a lifelong member of Twin Lakes Reformed Church and served as a deacon. Corporal LaRoy served in the US Army Artillery during WW II. He landed in North Africa, served in Italy and was discharged in 1945. He married Jessie Jeanette Hiemstra on September 26, 1945. He was a carpenter employed by Schuring Construction until his retirement at age 62. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother and he will be deeply missed. He enjoyed singing, farming, gardening and sports. He lovingly built many wood-working projects for his home, his children and his grandchildren. He loved playing baseball and listening to the Detroit Tigers' baseball games on the radio. He loved to sing and instilled a love of music in his children. Arlon was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Henrietta LaRoy; an infant son, Wayne Robert LaRoy; a grandson, Michael Kellay; and four brothers, Marvin Wilma, Alfred Dorothy, Edwin and Maynard. Arlon is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years of marriage, Jessie Hiemstra LaRoy; their children, Esther LaRoy Kellay, James Luann LaRoy, Donald Deb LaRoy all of Kalamazoo and Phyllis Hugh Steele of WI; their grandchildren, David Kellay, Jennifer Kellay, Tim Kristy LaRoy, Matt Katie LaRoy, Rebecca Greg Town, Stephen Cheryl LaRoy, Deborah Steele, James Sarah Steele, Aaron LaRoy and Erin Steele; six great grandchildren; sisters and sisters-in-law, Dolly Roy, Jr. Kruisinga, Luella Harm Doorlag, Marilyn Lloyd Dow, Norma Ekema LaRoy and Betty Nap LaRoy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Twin Lakes Reformed Church, 5475 Ravine Rd., with Pastor Ron Lugten officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. today, Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
