Arend Gritter

Arend "Arie" Gritter, age 92 of Kalamazoo, went to his Heavenly home on November 10, 2021. Arie was born in the Netherlands on June 13, 1929, the son of the late Evert & Jantze (Jonker) Gritter. Arie immigrated to London, Ontario, Canada, in 1951 and came to Kalamazoo in 1960. He was married to Johanna (Glas) Gritter for 59 years and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2014. He was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Arie enjoyed volunteering for numerous organizations, yard work, and fishing trips to Northern Ontario, Canada. He was a home builder in the Kalamazoo area for many years. Surviving are his children: Marvin (Susan) Gritter of Otsego, Jeff (Judy) Gritter of Kalamazoo, Mark (Cherri) Gritter of Plainwell, and Joel (Jody) Gritter of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren: Nicole (Steve) Balkema, Luke (Heather) Gritter, Benjamin Gritter, Molly Gritter, Logan Gritter, Andrea Gritter, Mallori Gritter, Mitchell Lawrence, Grace Gritter, and Colin Gritter; his great-grandchildren: Emma, Corbin, and Harper Balkema; his in-laws: Carol Glas of Orlando, FL, Grace Mulder of Kalamazoo, Joe Glas of Portage, and Jim and Grace Pestoor of Kalamazoo; cousins and best friends. He was preceded in death by eleven siblings and one grandson Michael Lawrence. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road, Kalamazoo, with Pastor Fred DeYoung officiating. Interment will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery. Friends may visit with his family an hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-11 AM. Donations in memory of Arie may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.
