Of Kalamazoo Ardis passed away early Tuesday morning, May 3, 2011 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born February 5, 1922 in Allegan, the daughter of the late Otto and Lotta Dostie Hettinger. On November 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clifford DeRyke, who preceded her in death in 1971. Ardis was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry. Surviving are her six children, Dianne Don Jewett, Mark Rita DeRyke, Christine Komar, Steven Cindy DeRyke, Daniel Karen DeRyke and Douglas DeRyke; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Avis McConney; many nieces and nephews; and her many friends at Westland Meadows. Funeral services for Ardis will be at 10:00 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, with Father Larry Farrell officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Macular Degeneration Research Association or American Heart Association.
