VANDER WEELE, Anthony J. "Tony"
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Anthony went to be with the Lord on Monday June 29, 2009 and is now enjoying God's garden. Anthony was born on March 19, 1924 to Anthony and Jennie Vander Weele in Kalamazoo Michigan. On June 2, 1943 he was married to his sweetheart, Christine Van Dyke. At their home in Northwood, the couple raised 5 children while Anthony developed his truck farm, growing produce for sale at the Kalamazoo City Market and on their home produce stand for 55 years. He will long be remembered for the quality of the produce he raised and sold, and his honesty and fairness with customers. Anthony loved to share his garden expertise with any who were interested. Anthony was also retired from Western Michigan University Grounds Department where he worked for nearly 20 years, until his retirement in 1986. Anthony was a faithful member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Surviving is his wife of 66 years Christine and 5 of their 6 children, Jan Paul Hoogenboom of Kalamazoo, Karen Henry Renzema of Kalamazoo, Dale Vander Weele of Grandville, Michigan, Kalvin Karen Vander Weele of Plainwell, and Michael Gail Vander Weele of Kalamazoo. An infant daughter preceded him in death in 1967. Anthony had 19 grandchildren, Brian, Aaron, Gwen, Eric, Christina, Emily, Willem, Nathan, Nicolas, Joy, Steven, Rebecca, Gretchen, Jessica, Heidi, Robert, David, Laura and Carolyn. Anthony was also blessed with 24 great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters include, June Lewis Lockwood of Hayward, California, Ruth Barth deceased, and Robert Genevieve Vander Weele of Dorr, Michigan. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road, with Rev. Dr. Warren H. Lammers officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday today from 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Private interment will be in West Cooper Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church or Kalamazoo Bethany Christian Services.
