KUILEMA, Annette Veldkamp
Of Portage, Michigan Annette went to be with her Lord Friday afternoon, April 17, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence with her daughter's by her side. She was born August 25, 1924 in Kalamazoo, one of eight children to Samuel and Anna Newmeyer Schreuder. She was employed by The Upjohn Co. until her retirement in 1987. In her retirement, she went back to work for J.C. Penny, where she again retired after 11 years. Annette was a member of First Reformed Church of Portage. Her family was the "joy of her life" and that life was a reflection of love and a warm devotion to her family. Preceding her in death were her first husband, Peter Veldkamp on July 8, 1965; her second husband, William Kuilema, Jr. on May 29, 1986; 1 sister, Wilma Jones; and 2 brothers, Martin and Henry Schreuder. Surviving are her 2 daughters, Nancy Don Hoeksema of Portage and Shirley Snyder of Harbor Springs; 1 step-daughter, Karen Jim Houle of Largo, FL; 4 grandchildren, Tim Pam Hoeksema, Mike Melissa Snyder, Julie Stan Rusinek, and Chad Lisa Hoeksema; 6 great-grandchildren, Logan, Jack, Dutch, Holly, Emma, and Ellie; 3 sisters, Winnie Bachelder, Marion Meeker, and Grace Maynard Shipe; 1 brother, Herman Joann Schreuder; 2 sisters-in-law, Jenny and Kay Schreuder; and several nieces and nephews. Her family and friends rejoice that her loving and courageous spirit lives on, just as will the memories of her, in those whose lives she touched. A service celebrating Annette's life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave, with Rev. Mike Drew officiating, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
