KING, Anne
Kalamazoo Passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011. Anne was born March 25, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Emmo and Tina Mejeur Sportel and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church, had worked for the Bryant Paper Company for many years and cleaned houses for several families in the Kalamazoo area for over 20 years. On December 4, 1940, she married Charles King, who preceded her in death on May 6, 1971. She was also preceded by her parents; her step-mother, Anna Sportel; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Bob Talsma; a brother, Henry Sportel; 2 brothers-in-law, Henry Post and Carl Flamm; a sister-in-law, Millie Sportel. Anne is survived by her daughters, Char Paul Vander Kley of Kalamazoo, Janice Frank Gibson of Greenfield, TN and Grace Mark Ritsema of Mattawan; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta Post and Bea Flamm; two brothers, Garry Evelyn Sportel and Art Jan Sportel; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road, with Rev. Dr. Warren E. Lammers, officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.
