Carow, Anne Elizabeth Of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the age of 88. She was born in Morristown, New Jersey on December 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Theodore and Isobel Colwell Schoonmaker. She graduated from Glen Ridge High School, where she enjoyed studying cooking. She received her Bachelors Degree in Nutrition from Douglas College, which is now part of Rutgers University. She worked for the Beechnut Corporation and later was the store manager at Goodwill in Kalamazoo. She then worked for Western Michigan University for 13 years, where she helped people to prepare for seeking jobs and the interview process. She was married to Eldred Carow on May 27, 1950; he preceded her in death on March 15, 1990. Together they went on several wonderful vacations with the whole family, including Martha's Vineyard, Boulder, Colorado and several trips to New Jersey to visit Anne's family. She maintained long term relationships with her college friends and joined them for their 55th reunion in 2001. Anne loved cooking for family and guests and was known for the wonderful parties she hosted. She also enjoyed games and crafts, especially making Christmas wreaths out of Christmas cards. She was raised as a Roman Catholic and later attended the People's Church and the Milwood United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Kalamazoo Newcomers Club and Ladies Library Associatioon. Anne is survived by her five children, James Christine Carow of Kalamazoo, Stephen Victoria Carow of Austin, TX, David Carow of Lansing, MI, Elizabeth Paul Juozitis of Pittsburg, PA and Harold Carow of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Shannon Ron Schmidt, Brian Carow, Caroline Carow, Anna Carow, Claire Juozitis and John Juozitis; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, Emily and Damian. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Maureen Carow McAtee; and her brother, Theodore Schoonmaker Jr. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage St. Rev. Kennetha J. Bigham-Tsai will officiate with interment in South Portage Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. They may also visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Community of Kalamazoo.
