PETERSON, Mrs. Ann Lautner Weber Kalamazoo Passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Mrs. Peterson was born in July 19, 1929, in Borgess Hospital, the daughter of Ernest and Laura Lautner Weber. She lived in Richland until 1943, when her family moved to Kalamazoo. After graduation from Western State High School in 1947, she enrolled at Western Michigan College. While a student she joined the Senate sorority, which became the Gamma Xi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega. As an alumna, she would play a leading role in building the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house and developing Fraternity Village. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Western in 1951, she began to teach. From 1951-1954, she taught English and mathematics at Three Rivers High School. From 1954-1957, she taught at Parchment Junior High School, where she also directed plays. On July 7, 1956, she married a fellow teacher from Three Rivers High School, William J. Peterson. They had two daughters. After her marriage, Mrs. Peterson retired and became an active volunteer. The primary focus of her volunteer work was the Parchment Union Methodist Church now Parchment United Methodist Church. A member of the Woman?s Society and Susanna Circle, she served in various church offices, and was instrumental in building a new church for the congregation. She served PUMC as a lay member of the Annual Conference, and as a member of the Wesley Foundation Board, she supervised Methodist outreach at college campuses across Michigan. Mrs. Peterson was a genealogist who traced her ancestors into the 1500?s. As a librarian working at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Genealogical Library, she shared her expertise in German genealogical research with many people. Survivors include her husband, William J. Peterson; daughters, Kathe Marie Oliver and Wendy Ann Comeau; sons-in-law, Neal Oliver and Paul Comeau; and grandchildren, Alexander Oliver, Laura Comeau, and Marian Comeau. Funeral services for Mrs. Peterson will be at 1:30 PM on Sunday today at St. Ambrose Parish Hall, 1628 E. G Avenue, Parchment, with Rev. Dan Minor officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided and there will be time to visit with the family. Private interment will be Riverside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Parchment United Methodist Church ? Building Fund, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or a charity of one?s choice.
