DeKAM, Ann
Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away June 23, 2008. Ann was born August 22, 1917 in Kalamazoo; she was the daughter of Peter and Hattie Esman Everts and lived in Portage most of her life. Ann attended Portage schools and worked at J.C. Penney Company before her marriage to John H. DeKam in 1940. She was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Portage where she was active in Dorcus. Ann was an avid gardener and craftswoman. Ann and John enjoyed "farm" life in Schoolcraft for many years; they were also active with Michigan Airstreamers. Ann volunteered for Coover Senior Center for years during her residence at Wyndham; she made hundreds of newborn hats for Bronson Hospital. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and infant sister, Annette Everts. She is survived by her daughters, Joanne Larry Woodward, Patricia Robert Zilinski, and Marjorie Boerman; brother John Joan Everts; sister, Henrietta Everts; grandchildren, Michael Zilinski and Sarah Zilinski; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 25th from 6 - 8:00pm and 12:00-1:00pm, 1-hour prior to the service, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., Portage. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26th, 1:00PM. at the Portage Chapel, Rev. Ed Martin, officiating. A private family interment will take place at Portage Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Heritage Community Foundation, 2300 Portage Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49001 or First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave., Portage, MI 49002.
