Amy Réne Corder passed away at her home on July 11, 2024, as a result of a yearlong battle with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband, William (Bill), and children Kennedy, Liam, and Morgan. Amy faced every challenge she endured during this time with positivity and strength.
Amy was born in Davenport, Iowa, on March 18, 1976, to Pamela and Gregory Shanley. After having the privilege of living in multiple states and countries as a child, Amy’s family settled in Michigan, the place she called home. Amy was a 1994 graduate of Portage Central High School. It was here she met the love of her life, Bill Corder, in 1992.
Amy continued her education at Western Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health Education/Psychology in 1998 and a Master’s in Public Administration in 2004.
As high school sweethearts, Amy and Bill were excited to start their new lives together following college and were married May 27, 2000.
After several years spent traveling and enjoying many outdoor activities together, Amy and Bill decided to expand their family, welcoming Kennedy in 2009, Liam in 2010, and Morgan in 2012. Amy’s children meant the world to her. Some of her most precious memories with them included their time spent traveling, participating in local activities, attending sporting events, and simply spending time together to bond.
Amy also had a very soft spot in her heart for pets, especially dogs, and was inseparable from her beloved Max, who was welcomed into the family in 2020.
Amy loved to read, ski and snowboard with her family, swim, go to the beach and look for rocks or shells, take walks, snuggle with Max, and spend time with friends and family. Her greatest joy was watching her children grow, seeing their individual personalities develop and supporting them in their various adventures, activities, and sports.
Amy was most recently employed by the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), in Battle Creek, Michigan—she celebrated her 25th anniversary this past January. During her work with the DLA, Amy had the privilege of holding a variety of positions under two agencies. Under the Defense Logistics Information Service, she held positions in Cataloging, Workforce Development, Supervision, and Program Office Contracting POC. Amy transitioned to Disposition Services in 2014, where her roles included Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer.
Amy will always be remembered for her sense of humor, warm and welcoming smile, and the breath of fresh air she brought to a room or situation. We could not have asked for a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and co-worker, and she will be missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Amy was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and her mother, Pamela Shanley.
She is survived by her husband, William Corder; her children, Kennedy Corder, Liam Corder, and Morgan Corder of Kalamazoo, MI; her father, Gregory Shanley of Kalamazoo, MI; sisters, Christa Shanley of Sylvania, OH , and Angela Buck of Grand Rapids, MI; six beloved nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, Wallace and Jamie Corder; brother-in-law, Robert Corder; and her father’s very special friend, Sandy Wooldridge.
Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, Michigan 49024, where family will greet friends from 10-11:00am. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
