DOWLER, Alvin F.

formerly of Kalamazoo Alvin F. Dowler, 83, passed peacefully in his sleep at home and went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Al was born in Blanchester, Ohio on November 14, 1927 to Porter and Katheryne King Dowler. He moved to Kalamazoo, MI at a young age and resided there the majority of his life. He worked at the UpJohn Company for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Powers Dowler; siblings, Porter, Naomi, Belva, and George. He is survived by his loving wife, Aletha; children, Sharon Bill, Chris Greg, Rhonda, Steve Deb, and Sue Robert; grandchildren, Chrissy Jeremy, Michael, Jason, Matthew, Allison, Ryan, Shawn, Kelly, Ann, Victoria, and great granddaughter, Kalynn; siblings, Eileen and Thelma; and many nieces and nephews. Al will be best remembered for his integrity, compassion, sense of humor, deep devotion to family and friends, and love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a blessing to all who knew him. He was greatly loved and now greatly missed. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the City of Portage South Cemetery at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan's Purse.
