MOERDYK, Mrs. Alida J.
Of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Sunday evening, December 7, 2008, at Tendercare Portage. Alida was born January 2, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Elizabeth Rademaker Boerkoel. She was a longtime resident of the Kalamazoo area, was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation and had been a volunteer at Bronson Hospital for more than 30 years. On June 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Garret Moerdyk, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Carol James Greene of Arizona, Geraldine Gary Bleeker of Grand Rapids and Alice Stuart Ekema of Kalamazoo; a son-in-law, Thomas Sporte of Jenison; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jane John Mast of Grand Rapids and Cornelius Josephine Boerkoel of Grand Rapids; a brother-in-law, Cornelis Blok. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Sporte in 2007 and by a sister, Joan VanBemden. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation 108 Pratt Rd. with Rev. J. B. Zippro officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alida's memory may be directed to the Providence Christian School or a charity of your choice.
