VAN DYKE, Mrs. Alice C.
Portage, MI Died Saturday morning May 21, 2011. Alice was born February 4, 1910 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Cornelius and Alice Schuring DeYoung. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Sutherland Paper Company before retiring years ago. Alice was also a member of Milwood Christian Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 74 years, William VanDyke, Sr. on November 6, 2004; a daughter-in-law, Sue VanDyke; 3 brothers, Nelson, Harm, and Jacob DeYoung; and 3 sisters, Jenny Paxon, Gertrude Slack, and Rena Medendorp. Alice is survived by 3 children, William Joy VanDyke, Jr. of Dorr, MI, and Douglas VanDyke and Norman Joan VanDyke all of Portage; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cornelius "Bud" Joyce DeYoung of Comstock; a sister, Helen Burkhead of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday, June 3rd at the Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Milwood Christian Reformed Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
