Alice Stoppelberg

STOPPELBERG, Alice Kalamazoo Mrs. Stoppelberg went to be with her Lord on Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2007 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born April 1, 1909 in Forsyth, Montana, one of three children to Norman and Edna Braman Thomas. At the age of 2, her family returned to Northport, Michigan, where she grew up. In 1928, Alice graduated from Northport High School. She attended both Olivet College and Western Teachers Institute, where she received her Teaching Certificate. She was employed by KVP for 13 years, but spent most of her life raising her family. On December 3, 1938, Alice was united in marriage to Harm H. Stoppelberg. She was a longtime member of Oakwood Bible Church. She was very active in several church activities. She taught Sunday school, organized the Bible Memory Association, and was involved in the support of various missionary activities. In retirement, she and Harm did custodial work at the church as well. Surviving are their two children, Mary Richard Kirby of Schoolcraft and Thomas Barbara Hopps Stoppelberg of Portage; four grandchildren, Timothy Cindi Kirby, Kimberly Gregg Eicholtz, Thomas ?T.J.? Holly Stoppelberg, and Michelle Matt Dorbin; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Kirby and Jacob Eicholtz; three step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Hilary, and Ariel Bronson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death are her husband, Harm, on September 25, 2001; an infant daughter, Carol Stoppelberg; her parents; one brother, Eugene Thomas; and one sister, Frances Wood. Funeral services for Mrs. Stoppelberg will be at 1:00 PM on Friday tomorrow at Oakwood Bible Church, 4100 Oakland Drive, with Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday today at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Oakwood Bible Church.
