Of Portage, Michigan Alice passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at her residence. She was born August 16, 1929 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Colin and Elinor Dudley Grant-Watters. Alice attended Albion College and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She has been a longtime Kalamazoo/Portage area resident and had been employed as an industrial editor for The Upjohn Company. Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. On February 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Hamilton C. Scharff who survives. Also surviving are her son, Kenton Maureen Scharff of Delaware, OH; three grandchildren, Samuel Scharff, Felipe Scharff and Elena Scharff; a brother, Colin Donna Grant-Watters of St. Clair, MI; nephew and cousins. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, August 14 from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. where a service to celebrate Alice's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday with Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon officiating. A private interment will be held in Portage South Cemetery.
